TEXAS CNA RENEWAL REQUIREMENTS

To renew your Texas CNA certification, you must meet the renewal requirements established by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC).

As part of the renewal process, CNAs must attest that they have completed the required 24 hours of in-service education/training for each two-year certification period.

You will also need qualifying employment verification. For individual CNA renewals using Form 5506-NAR, the employer completes the employment verification portion of the form and the employer's signature must be notarized.

Important: Keep copies of your completed in-service/CEU training records for your personal records.

STEP 2 — Complete Your Required CNA Training

Complete the required CNA in-service education/training.

Texas CNAs must complete at least 24 hours of required in-service education during the applicable two-year certification period.

You will be asked to attest that you have completed the required training before Faith Forward proceeds with your renewal assistance.

You DO NOT need to upload all of your CEU certificates to Faith Forward. However, you should keep your certificates and training documentation for your own records.

STEP 3 — Complete Your Employment Verification

You will need to provide information about your qualifying CNA employment.

When Form 5506-NAR is required, your employer must complete the employer verification section and the employer's signature must be notarized.

STEP 4 — Complete Your CNA Renewal Portal

After purchasing your renewal service, complete the Faith Forward CNA Renewal Portal Form.

STEP 5 — Faith Forward Reviews Your Renewal Packet

Once your CNA Renewal Portal Form is submitted, our team will review your information and required documentation.

If something is missing or incomplete, we will contact you.

Your renewal cannot move forward until all required information and documentation have been received.

STEP 6 — TULIP RENEWAL APPLICATION

Once all required information and documents have been received and verified, Faith Forward will assist with preparing and completing the CNA renewal application through the Texas Unified Licensure Information Portal (TULIP).

The CNA renewal application includes acknowledgment of the required in-service education and submission of the required employment verification documentation.

STEP 7 — STATE REVIEW & NURSE AIDE REGISTRY UPDATE

After the renewal application has been successfully submitted through TULIP, it is sent to the State of Texas for review.

State processing generally takes approximately two weeks; however, processing times can vary.

Faith Forward cannot guarantee the exact date that HHSC will approve an application or update the Texas Nurse Aide Registry.

You should monitor your email and TULIP account for notices or requests for additional information.

Once approved, verify that your renewed CNA certification appears correctly on the Texas Nurse Aide Registry.

How many in-service hours do I need to renew my CNA certification in Texas?

Texas CNA renewal requires 24 hours of in-service education for every two-year certification period.

Do I have to upload all of my CEU certificates? No.

For the standard individual TULIP renewal process, the CNA acknowledges completion of the required in-service education. You should maintain your training documentation and certificates for your own records.

What is Form 5506-NAR?

Form 5506-NAR is the Texas Nurse Aide Registry Employment Verification form used for individual CNA renewal when applicable. The CNA completes the applicant portion, and the employer completes the employment verification portion. The employer's signature must be notarized.

Do I need a TULIP account?

Individual CNA renewal applications are submitted through TULIP — the Texas Unified Licensure Information Portal.

If you already have a TULIP account, have the email address associated with the account available when completing the Faith Forward CNA Renewal Portal.

If you do not have a TULIP account, you will need to enroll with the TULIP portal.

How long does Texas CNA renewal take?

Once your complete renewal application has been submitted through TULIP, state processing generally takes approximately two weeks, although actual processing times can vary.
